Alice L. Smith, 91, of Rossville, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette.
She was born November 25, 1923, in North Manchester, the daughter of Fred Henry and Ellen Louese Lyons Evans. On February 1, 1943, she married Robert L. Smith Sr.; he survives.
Alice graduated from Attica High School. She began working as a soda jerk at her parentâs drugstore. Alice later worked at Home Hospital and the Indiana Veterans Home as a ward clerk. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and believer in Jesus Christ. Alice was an avid reader and loved to garden, jigsaw puzzles, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to her husband, Alice is survived by her children, Robert L. (Sheila) Smith Jr. of Batesville, Elaine L. Smith and Ellen L Smith, both of Lexington, KY, Laura (Neal) Hawkins of Rossville, and Amy L. Arnett of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Kristin, Alissa (Anthony), Alice (Ben), Alexander, and Robby; and two great grandchildren, Andy and Luanne.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Anna K. Hawkins and Vincent M. Smith; two brothers, Stan Evans and Fred Evans; and one sister, Sarah Pattengale.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Wes Campbell will officiate.
