Arthur A. Beard

Arthur A. Beard, 82, of Frankfort, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1930, in Clinton County, the son of Clarence R. and Ruby B. Smith Beard.  On August 16, 1952, he married the former Barbara Morris; she survives.

Arthur graduated from Rossville High School in 1948 and Purdue University in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in Ag-Econ.  While at Purdue, he was inducted to the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  Arthur was a lifelong Clinton County resident.  Arthur served in the United States Army as a 1st Lt. from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was a farmer, owner and operator of Beard Management Inc., and grain dealer from 1976 to 2004 for Beard Grain Co. Arthur was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Sampler Sunday School, Beard Masonic Lodge 641, and Frankfort Lions Club, and past member of Frankfort County Club and Elks Lodge.  

In addition to his wife, Arthur is survived by two sons, Clark A. Beard (companion, Shirley Richardson) of Frankfort, and Lyle E. Beard (wife: Lisa) of Floyds Knobs; one daughter, Marcia Beard-Kalina (husband: Scott) of Palatine, IL; sister, Bonnie B. Geib of Stockton, CA; two brothers, William J. Beard (wife: Jean) of Frankfort, and James E. Beard (wife: Joan) of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Marilyn Beard of Frankfort; and eight grandchildren, Sabrinae, Kimberly, Mathew, Amy, Abby, Nathan, Calder, and Jordan.

Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Ruth Branstetter; brother, Robert W. Beard; and daughter-in-law, Peggy J. Beard.

Visitation for Arthur will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort with Pastor Jake Fisher officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Hopewell Cemetery.  Memorials in Arthur’s name may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church or Lions Club Eye Bank.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
