Auburn E. âBudâ Conklin, 79, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at his home.
He was born June 28, 1934, in Union City, the son of Roy and Mary Leavy (Thornburg) Conklin. He was previously married to Ruth Elkins. On August 24, 1963, he married Shirley E. Arnett in Elizabeth City, NC; she preceded him in death on January 2, 2008.
Bud served in the Marine Corp. during the Korean War from 1953-1956. After his service, he lived in Portsmouth, VA, and later Greenville, Ohio, before returning to Frankfort in 1966. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad as a brakeman and conductor for 33 years. Bud was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of the Moose and Masonic Lodge.
Surviving Bud are his children, Alisa VanHorn, Pamela Lewis and Ruth Chappel, all of Chesapeake, VA, Auburn (Nancy) Conklin Jr., Rebecca âBeckyâ Alquezada, and Terri (James) Laflen, all of Frankfort; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Bud is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Margaret; brother, LeRoy Conklin Jr.; and two sisters, Alice Yoder and Esley Beck.
Visitation for Bud will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Genda Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. with Masonic service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service for Bud will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Frankfort with Pastor Chuck Williams officiating.
