Barry Joe Sharp, 66, of Kirklin, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at his home.
He was born November 22, 1948, in Frankfort to Joseph D. and Lanora L. Reese Sharp; his mother survives in Frankfort. On September 9, 1990, he married Joanne I. Branger Sharp; she preceded him in death on January 29, 1999.
Barry graduated from Frankfort Senior High School. He then served in the United States Marine Corp. for two years before enlisting in the United States Navy on June 26, 1975. He served during the Vietnam War, receiving several medals of honor, before his retirement in 1993. Barry then worked at Carmel Engineering. He was a member of the Kirklin American Legion and enjoyed racing and working on cars.
In addition to his mother, Barry is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Day of Missouri, and Wendy Pickett of Lebanon; step-daughter, Jennifer Heise of Lafayette; step-son, Jason Lane of Lafayette; one brother, Jeff Sharp of Rensselaer; and several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father and one brother, Vincent Arthur Sharp.
Military honors will be held at the Kirklin American Legion on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 12 p.m. with a gathering of family and friends to follow at the Legion until 3:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
