Dr. William Ben Bright, DVM, âDocâ passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born in Vanlue, Ohio, on December 30, 1933, to William Erman Bright and Bertha Irene McRill Bright. He was a graduate of Vanlue High School in 1952 and Ohio State University in 1958. After graduating from Ohio State with a DVM degree, he entered into the United States Army as a member of the Veterinary Corps. He was stationed at Camp Irwin in California where he cared for the horses of the First Cavalry until he left the service as a captain in 1960.
Upon returning to the Midwest, he began veterinary practice in Rossville in partnership with his brother, David. He also worked for the State Board of Health from 1981 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church for 54 years.
In 1962, he married JoAnn Bauer Blessman, who preceded him in death in 1995. In 1997, he married Patty Leazenby.
Surviving are his wife, Patty; his daughter, Betsy Remaly (Allen) of Rossville; his sons, Brendon Bright (Carrie) of Rossville, and Kurk Bright (Magie Read) of Battle Ground; step-children, Lori Need (Jeff) and Brian Leazenby (Ann), both of Rossville; grandchildren, Alyssa Smith (Aaron), Conner Remaly, Emma and Lauren Bright, Barbara Bright-Read, Brady and Rachel Need, Chase Riley, and Jessica Grissom; and one brother, David (Laura) of Terre Haute.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; and sisters, Carol and Joyce Jane.
Visitation will be at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be at Rossville United Methodist Church on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 10:30 am. There will also be a one-hour visitation beginning at 9:30 am at the church before funeral services. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.
