Berta M. (Crews) Murphy

Berta M. Murphy, 87, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

The daughter of E. D. and Mabel (Hendryx) Crews, Berta was born July 13, 1935, in Frankfort.  She was a 1953 graduate of Frankfort High School.  She married Robert Murphy, and they later divorced.

Berta worked at Spiegel, Essex Wire, Yeager and Sullivan, Brethren Home, and St. Elizabeth Health Care.  She was a former member of the Dietary Manager’s Association and Sharon Baptist Church.  She was a workaholic, but as time allowed, she enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, and eating out.  Later in life, she loved watching TV.

Berta will be missed by her children, Michael (Michele) Murphy of Flora, Sheryl (Tom) Andis of Evansville, Janet (Geno) Hester of Kokomo, Jacqueline (Vennie) Frazier of Lafayette, Donna (Gary) Holbrook of Macy, and Toni (Jeff) McGrew of Logansport; grandchildren, Krissy Hare, Brandon Murphy, Patrick Myers, Craig Lundin, and Tiffany Irwin; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Friday, December 16, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the beginning of the service at 1:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Homes~Reinke Chapel in Flora.  Burial will be in Scotland Cemetery.  Memorials in Berta’s name can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society.
