Bertie Lou Beard, 88, a life-long Frankfort resident, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
She was born January 23, 1929, in Burlington, to Ora Bert and Ada Alice Boyce Michael. On March 10, 1946, Bertie married Harley E. âChuckâ Beard; he preceded her in death on May 3, 2003.
Bertie worked at National Cigar Factory for 19 years and then Indiana Brass for eight years before retiring. She was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose.
Surviving Bertie are her daughters, Peggy (Gary) Gregory, Nancy (Everett) Emery, and Linda (Jack) Heavilon, all of Frankfort, Judy (Lucky) Brown, of Rossville, and Jennifer (Jeff) Bray, of Frankfort; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Bertie is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Darlina Hale; two brothers, Bonny Blackburn and Ross Michael; and five sisters, Gertie Peterson, Florence Royer, Lucille Millett, Blanche Wood, and Dorothy Green.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 4:00 â 8:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral service for Bertie will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Philip Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
