Betty J. James, 84, of Flora, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her residence.  She was born December 8, 1935 in Franklin County, AL to Granville and Ruby (Whitfield) Tyra.  Betty married O.C. “Pete” James October 25, 1952 in Walnut Ridge, Ark.  He survives.  She worked for over 40 years at Sayco.  She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved to share her cooking with family and friends.

Along with her husband, Betty is survived by her children, Peggy Sue Anthony of Missouri and David O.C James of Flora; siblings, Bernice Gunter of Alabama and Carolyn Tyra of Monticello; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vickie; and siblings, Dean Mocherman, Granville Tyra and J.T. Tyra.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 4-7 pm at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel.  Funeral service will be 1 pm, Wednesday, January 15 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
