Bill Godbey

Janis “Bill” Godbey, 78, of Rossville, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette.

He was born September 2, 1938, in Bethelridge, Kentucky, to Troy and E. Lois Wiles Godbey.  On October 17, 1959, he married Janet A. Shadoan in Ferguson, Kentucky; together they shared 58 years of marriage.

Bill and his family moved to the Rossville area in 1963.  He worked for 27 years at Exide.  His true passion in life was pastoring.  Bill served for 38 years at Valley View Baptist Church in Flora.  At the age of 62, he received his degree in ministry.  He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and shooting guns.  Bill always made his love of his family known to them; he was either known in the community for being either a jokester or doing something kind for someone.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughters, Glenda (Brad) Skaggs, of Frankfort, Lois Janie Adams, of Rossville, Lisa “The Warden” (Wade) Creasy, of Lafayette, and Pam “The Baby”  (Denis) Jones, of Bringhurst; brothers, Jimmey “Jake” Godbey, Phillip “Flap” (Darlene) Godbey, and Emery “Hooty” Godbey, all of Kentucky; sisters, Geraldine “Bob” (Don) Jones and Darlene “Beanie” (Steve) Haste, both of Kentucky; 17 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, son, Billy Wayne Godbey; brother, Charles “Mutt” Godbey; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Valley View Baptist Church in Flora, from 11:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  Bill’s grandson, Rev. Donnie Bryant, and Rev. Larry Wood will officiate.  Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort.  Memorials may be made to Valley View Baptist Church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel with online condolences being directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
