Billy Price Burns, 88, lifelong resident of Flora, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born on April 24, 1928, in Flora, the son of the late Paul and Marie (Peterson) Burns.
Billy attended Flora High School. He entered the Army and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war, on June 6, 1948, he married Ruth Wolf. He retired from Brim Concrete after 42 years as a diesel mechanic. Billy was also a licensed plumber/electrician and a licensed private pilot. He was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church. Billy loved camping, fishing and family trips to Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, three daughters, Patricia âPattyâ (Bill) Hufford, of Flora, Shirley (Roger) Trent, of Bringhurst, and Kathy (Sonny) Huddleston, of Logansport; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Dick Burns, of Florida.
Billy is preceded in death by brothers, Jerry, Bob, and sister, Dortha.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Sharon Baptist Church in Flora from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will begin at 3 pm Thursday, September, 8, 2016, at Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery.
