Carolyn Wharry Kuhns, 82, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
She was born February 17, 1933, in Bristol, VA, to Rev. William Vastine and Freddie Leah Gates McCray. She was formerly married to James D. Wharry. On December 14, 1989, she married Max G. Kuhns; he survives.
Carolyn graduated from Frankfort High School in 1951. Throughout her life, she worked at J.C. Penny, Aldenâs, and the Clinton County Commissioners Office. She worked for 24 years at PR Mallory before her retirement. She then worked at Rite Aid Pharmacy for three years. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering, and helping others.
Carolyn was a member of Kilmore United Methodist Church, Crusaders Class at Kilmore United Methodist Church, Clinton County Chapter #6 of the Order of the Easter Star and former member of Order of the Eastern Star at Beard #491 where she joined in 1958, and Union Extension Homemakers Club where she was past county treasurer. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Disabled Veterans Auxiliary where she served as Past State Commander. Carolyn was also past president of Church Women United in Clinton County and a bloodmobile volunteer.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by her children, Ronald E. (Louetta) Wharry, Gary W. Wharry, Debbie J. Kraner (John Reid), all of Frankfort, and Kathy S. Kincade of Lafayette; step-children, Richard J. (Jayne) Kuhns of Moran, William S. âBillâ Kuhns of Indianapolis, Mary S. Kuhns of Beech Grove, and Linda M. Ummel; sisters, Virginia McCray King of Houston, TX, and Frances McCray Davis of Moneta, VA; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Evelyn and Janet.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 2:00 â 5:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Kilmore United Methodist Church on Monday, December 28, 2015, with Pastor Craig Overman officiating.
