Charlene L. Birden, 85, of Frankfort, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her residence under hospice care. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of ViaQuest Hospice for their compassionate and continuous care during Charleneâs final days.
Charlene was born August 16, 1932 in Frankfort to Irwin A. and Edna V. (Reed) Payne.
Charlene graduated from Frankfort High School in 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Clinton County. She worked for Peter Paul for 12 years and for Delco Electronics for over 18 years. She was a member of New Life Independent Baptist Church, attended the First Baptist Church in Frankfort and was a member of the Golden Ladies. She enjoyed going out to eat with her sisters and loved her dog Cookie.
On July 8, 1953 in the chapel at Naval Base San Diego, Charlene married Richard Birden who preceded her in death on August 3, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; great-granddaughter, Brooke; sisters, Maxine and Inez and brothers Don, Doug, Dave, Bill and Bud.
Surviving family includes one son, Richard D. (Pam) Birden of Kokomo; three daughters, Carol (Terry) Shelley of Hillisburg, Connie Hatchett of Frankfort and Katheryn (Jimmy) Winget of Frankfort; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Sarah Staley of Frankfort and Helen Ray of New Haven, Florida.
Visitation for Charlene L. Birden will be held from 2-6:00p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church (301 S Columbia St, Frankfort, IN 46041). The funeral service will begin at 2:00p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the church with Pastor Chuck Williams of the church officiating.
