Charles Arthur âArtâ Martin, age 79, of Camden, IN, passed away July 1, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and RehabilitationâBridgewater in Carmel, IN. He was born April 12, 1937, at home in Camden, to Lorene (Shonk) and Ernie Martin (both deceased). He was a 1955 graduate of Camden High School.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Kelly) Martin, whom he married July 19, 1957; two daughters, Michelle Collins (Terry), of Westfield, and Kelly Martin, of Peru; sister, MaryAnne Berkshire (Kenny), of Camden; brother-in-law, Don Kelly, and sister-in-law, Patsy Hasser (Bill), both of Delphi; maternal aunts Marjorie Clauer, of Nashville, TN, and Virginia Shonk, of Camden; and many nieces and nephews.
Art was a farmer with a deep love of and appreciation for the land. He farmed many years alongside his father and was proud of the family farmâs status as a Hoosier Homestead. He also always worked off the farm: first, as an auto mechanic at Mann Chevrolet, Flora, for 32 years, then as an airframe technician (he obtained his Aircraft A&P License in 1987) for 17 years for Purdue University Aviation, from where he retired. He loved flying and had been a recreational pilot since he was a teenager.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 6, 4:00â8:00 p.m., at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel, 103 N. Center Street, Flora, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday. A funeral and celebration of Artâs life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jerry Long officiating. Burial will follow at Camden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Camden, where Art was a lifelong member.
