Charles J. Schiery, 86, of Mulberry passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1930, in Rossville, to Kenneth Paul and Garnett Fenstamaker Schiery. On April 4, 1954, he married Irma M. Layton; she preceded him in death on August 17, 2012.
Charles graduated from Mulberry High School in 1949, where he also played basketball. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army as a Corporal. He then worked for Alcoa as a tool and die repairman for over 30 years before retiring in 1988. Charles was a member of the Alcoa Retirees, Mulberry Community Club, Frankfort American Legion Post #12, and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Charles was a loving father and devoted husband. He and Irma showed a true example of love and marriage. The family enjoyed weekend camping in addition to camping trips every summer for the family to see America. Charles enjoyed woodworking, playing cards especially euchre, and gardening. He enjoyed his time with âhis girlsâ from Visiting Angels.
Surviving Charles are his daughters, Kathy (Steven) Pritchard, of Indianapolis, Cheryl (Jeffrey) Rampone, of New Palestine, and Linda (Tim) Timmons, of Crawfordsville; brothers, Raymond Schiery and Jerret Schiery, both of Rossville; sisters, Lavaun Stewart, of California, Marilyn Cline, of Roanoke, and Mary Thompson, of Thorntown; seven grandchildren, Steven Pritchard, Sean Pritchard, Drisana Rampone Lynch, Aron Rampone, Michael Rampone, Cassandra Timmons McQueen, and Cailee Timmons West; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Charles is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral service for Charles will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Mulberry. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
