Charles Jr. âButchâ Mummert, 95, of Flora, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.
He was born October 13, 1919, in Howard County near Young America, to Charles O. and Rosa May Mummert. On May 24, 1942, he married Esther Bechdolt; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2009.
In 1937, Butch graduated from Burlington High School. Butch served in the United States Army for over four years during World War II throughout England, France, and Belgium. In 1986 after 38 years, he retired from Star Roller Mills in Burlington. Butch was a member of Darwin Methodist Church and was currently attending Living Faith Church of the Brethren. He was a nine year member of Kiwanis and over 60 year member of the American Legion Post 414. Butch enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon (Dick) Fife of Galveston; one son, Charlie Mummert of Silver Lake; sister-in-law, Phyllis Mummert; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Butch is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Dale Mummert; and four brothers, John Mummert, William Mummert, Jim Mummert, and Joe Mummert.
Visitation for Butch will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora, from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jeff Tomson will officiate.
