Charles L. Douglas, 77, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Milner Community Health Care in Rossville.
He was born March 4, 1936, in Clinton County, the son of Clarence and Opha Clendenning Douglas. On May 15, 1959, he married Janet I. Hill at Hope United Methodist Church in Frankfort; she preceded him in death June 19, 2011.
Charles graduated from Rossville High School in 1955. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He farmed from 1956-1995and started work at Ross-Ade Stadium at Purdue University for the sports arenas. After his retirement from Purdue, he worked as a carpenter. Charles enjoyed woodworking; his last project was a roll top desk. He also enjoyed playing cards, talking at the smoke shops, and visiting at Treeceâs. Charles was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church.
Surviving Charles are his children, Mark (Amanda) Douglas of Rossville, Marcia (Ned) Smith of Michigantown, and Marna (J.B.) Huffer of Frankfort; one sister, Karolyn Ebert of Florida; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Brant Smith, Courtney Smith, Jared Huffer, Mallory Huffer, Madison Douglas, and Ashlynn Douglas.
In addition to his wife, Charles is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ken Ebert.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 2:00 -6:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel. Funeral service for Charles will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Brian White officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
