Charles Lee Burton, 86, of Flora, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born October 29, 1927, in Flora, to Charles William and Flossie Fory Burton. On June 15, 1952, he married Madonna Burns; she survives. They enjoyed 61 ½ years together.
Charles Lee graduated from Flora High School and assisted his father through school in the Burton Plumbing and Heating business; upon the death of his father, he continued in the family business for 18 years. He took further schooling at IU and Purdue University to become a registered Environmental Health Specialist. Charles Lee was employed with the Carroll County Board of Health for 34 years. He was awarded the Indiana State Amateur Health Award for establishing regulations onsite for sewage and solid waste disposal of landfill and transfer stations and improving bacterial conditions of Lake Freeman. Charles Lee assisted Delphi, Camden, Flora and Burlington with their water and sewage systems and food service establishments.
His social accomplishments include 32 degree Mason and Scottish Rite, past master of Flora Masonic Lodge 605, member of Rainbow Board for several years. Charles Lee served on both the Flora and Carroll County Building & Planning Commission and Flora Volunteer Fire Department. He along with his family owned and operated the John Deere Lawn and Garden Franchise from 1967-1974
In addition to his wife, Charles Lee is survived by his son, Geoffrey Lee Burton of Lafayette; niece, Marsha (Doug) Kerr; nephew, Conrad Burton; great nieces, Cheryl (Rev. Dr. Larry) Burton-Sansourcie and Cindy (Phillip) Vise; great nephew, Michael (McKay) Adams; and several great, great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sister, LaGreta Rardon and Mary White; and two brothers, Von Burton and Max Burton.
Visitation for Charles Lee will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home-Reinke Chapel in Flora from 4:00 â 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the funeral home.
