Daniel Dale Burkhalter, 93, formerly of Buck Creek, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.
He was born November 13, 1921, in Americus, to Lloyd and Vallie Lewis Burkhalter. On November 29, 1944, he married Doris Lucille Eller; she passed away on February 19, 1997. On December 8, 1998, he then married Cecilia Jane Grenat Downham; she survives.
Dale graduated from Rossville High School in 1939. Throughout his life, he lived in Sawyer, KS, Alpine, AZ, Modesto, CA, and Buffalo Prairie, IL, before settling in Buck Creek in 1998. Dale was a life member and past president of Tucson Rod and Gun Club, member of the Pyrmont Brethren Church, and charter member of the Alpine, AZ, Fire Department. In 1947, he sponsored a boy, Tony VanLeiden, from Alemo, Holland, to become an American Citizen.
In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by two sons, Randy (Donna) Burkhalter of Globe, AZ, and Larry Burkhalter of Des Moines, WA; one daughter, Jill (Howard) Payne of Apache Junction, AZ; three step-sons, Brian Downham (Kathy Peterson) of Flora, Brett (Cindy) Downham of West Lafayette, and Eric Downham of Lafayette; one brother, George (Billie) Burkhalter of Buck Creek; one sister, Wilma Jean (Russ) Hazlett of Frankfort; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Dale is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, three brothers, one step-son, Jeffery Downham; and one grandson, Ryan Daniel Burkhalter.
Visitation will be held at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, to the start of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Gottschalk will officiate.
