Daniel G. VanLaere, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
Dan was born May 29, 1952, in Lafayette, to Francis B. and Katheryne A. Dewitt VanLaere. On October 1, 1977, he married Deborah Nicewander who survives; they were happily married for nearly 39 years.
In 1971, Dan graduated from Wainwright High School and then served in the United States Army in Germany from 1972 to 1974. Throughout his life, Dan worked for Culligan, Anheuser-Busch, and later Tate & Lyle until he retired in 2011. Dan enjoyed gardening, going to flea markets and auctions, home beer brewing, tracking the stock exchange, and loved woodworking while wintering in Harlingen, Texas. He attended St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Frankfort, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harlingen.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Katie VanLaere of Washington D.C.; brothers, Ronald (Linda) VanLaere and James (Debra) VanLaere; sisters, Darlene (Larry) Horton, Mary Jo VanLaere, and Nancy (Dean) Pyatt; and aunt, Dorothy Stark.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David VanLaere.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. with Rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016, at St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Frankfort, with Fr. Chris Miller presiding. Burial will follow in Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Danâs name may be made to St. Maryâs Food Pantry in Frankfort.
