David L. Black, 73, of Orange, Cal., passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Ind.
He was born July 3, 1941, to Paul and Carol Baldwin Black in Fulton, Ind.
David graduated from Sweetser High School in 1959, earned a bachelorâs degree in 1963 from Ball State University, and received a masterâs degree in Mathematics from Cal State Dominguez Hills. After college, he moved to California and worked for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. After retirement, he worked for the Kit-Kat Clock Company. He was a member of Garden Grove Community Church.
David loved his savior Jesus Christ. In his younger years, David was a star athlete excelling in track and basketball. He was a dedicated father and little league coach. He loved his grandkids and spent as much time as he could with them. He loved NY Yankee baseball, history, building pine car derby racers, reading, and hanging out in Old Town Orange. David also was paramount in keeping the name of his brother, Mark, alive who was killed August 14, 1967, in the Vietnam War.
He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten by those who loved him. He was always there for his family.
David is survived by his father, Paul Black of Frankfort, IN; two sons, Mark R. Black and David L. Black Jr., both of Tustin, CA; one daughter, Sherrie Carlile of Castle Rock, CO; one granddaughter, Courtnie Black; and one grandson, Brennan Black.
In addition to Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Mark Ryan Black, his brother, David is preceded in death by his mother, Carol Baldwin Black.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Grant Memorial Park Chapel in Marion, with a gathering of family and friends one half hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery.
