David L. Matthews

David L. Matthews, 77, of Lafayette, passed away on June 22, 2016, at 2:02 PM at St. Elizabeth East Hospital.

He was born October 18, 1938, in rural Frankfort, to Schyler A. and Hazel Heaton Matthews.

David graduated from Cutler High School in 1956, and attended Purdue University.  He served as a PFC in the United States Army Medical Unit from 1961 to 1963.  He was employed at Purdue University Extension Offices and Bennett Greenhouse. David attended First Assembly Church in Lafayette.  He enjoyed reading religious books and flower gardening especially raising orchids.

Surviving are his sister Mary (Richard L.) Moore of Otterbein; niece, Julia (Brent) Kuhn; and nephews, Jay (Jenny) Moberly, Richard D. (Shelley) Moore, Douglas (Lindsey) Moore, Brian (Ellen) Moore, and Kent Moore.

David is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tex; sister, Jane, and her husband, Dale Moberly; niece, Mary, and nephew Richard.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to the start of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m.  Pastor Robby Bradford of First Assembly will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at Whiteman Cemetery with military honors.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
