Delroy L. McKinney

Delroy Louis Clayton McKinney, 84, Frankfort, IN, passed away on June 26, 2015. Delroy was born on February 17, 1931, in Troy, MO, to Mary Blanche Harlan Clayton and James Roy Clayton.

Delroy was an incredibly kind and generous person. She was a working mother and raised five children. Even though she often had her hands full with the kids and work, she was always willing to help others.  Delroy was an excellent role model for her children.

Delroy attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN, and was a member of the Pi Zeta sorority.  She met her husband, Robert “Bob” Keith McKinney, while attending college. She married Bob on July 1, 1951. They moved from Muncie, IN, to Ottawa, IL, before moving to Frankfort, IN, where she resided until her death.  Delroy and Bob were married for 58 years.

Delroy and Bob loved to travel.  They spent their retirement years traveling the United States in their RV.

Delroy retired from Mallory Controls where she was employed for 30 years. She worked part-time at the Wal-Mart jewelry department for five years.

Delroy was a member of East Side Christian Church for over 40 years. She served as Church Secretary, Head of the Ladies’ Circle, and Bible School teacher. She also attended Community Christian Church.  Delroy was a member of Phi Chi Epsilon and a Pink Lady at Clinton County Hospital.

Delroy was an excellent seamstress.  She enjoyed sewing for her family and in her later years she made school bags for underprivileged children through a local church foundation. While Delroy resided at Wesley Manor, she volunteered at the Country Store and was a member of the quilting group.

Delroy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob McKinney; daughter, Jerri Liszewski; grandson, Korry McNew; and four siblings, Betty Harris, Dotty Cox, Gail Gabbert, and Rick Clayton.

Surviving children include Dennis Keith McKinney (Patty), Zionsville, IN; Kayla Ann Mann, San Antonio, TX; Paula Lynne Newby (Larry), Indianapolis, IN; and Cindy Brewer, Austin, TX. Grandchildren include; Matthew Mann, (Sara), Floresville, TX; Jason Mann, (Christy),Colorado Springs, CO; Gus McKinney, Zionsville, IN; Taylor Brewer, West Lafayette, IN; Zechariah Liszewski, Denton, TX; Katy Brewer, West Lafayette, IN; Hannah Liszewski, Denton, TX; and Josiah Liszewski, Denton, TX as well as five great grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service for Delroy will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the funeral home.
