Don E. Ramsey, 85 of Lebanon, formerly of Flora, quietly passed away with his loving wife by his side at 1:40 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon. He was born June 6, 1931 in Miami County, Indiana, the son of Paul and Bernice Jenkins Ramsey of Bunker Hill. Don married Marlene Mays on June 24, 1951 at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and they celebrated 65 years together.
Don served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 serving time in Korea; there he received various medals including the Purple Heart. While in the army, Don became very close to several army buddies and their families. A friendship that would last many years with Don being the last to survive. Those friends included Jim Ellis, Leroy Keeling, Bill Mitton, Jack Rhoades, and David Snyder. He was a member of American Legion Post 222 in Flora, for many years.
Following his time in the service, he worked on the family farm and installed custom cabinets for Zinn Kitchens in Flora, for over 35 years. A dedicated member of the Radnor U.M.C., he served on various church committees, went on mission trips, taught Sunday school, and helped to build their new church building. Since moving to Lebanon, he has attended Centenary U.M.C. He was a passionate sports fan who played multiple sports in high school and was a perennial triples leader in the Carroll County Dartball League. He was an enthusiastic follower of the St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and I.U. Hoosiers.
Don is survived by his wife, Marlene, of Lebanon; a son, Mark Ramsey of Peru; a daughter, Susan (husband Jon) Willard of Zionsville and one sister Bonnie (husband Norman) Horner of Converse, Indiana. Also surviving is their exchange student daughter Patty (husband Augustin Romero) Guzman and their sons, Rodrigo and Diego (wife Laura) Romero Guzman, all of Colombia, South America.
Preceding Don in death were his parents and three brothers, Deane, Dale, and Delton Ramsey.
The funeral service Don E. Ramsey will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 the Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora with Rev. Anthony Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
