Doris D. Ayres, 95, of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at IU Hospital Frankfort.
She was born June 12, 1922, in Bringhurst, to Wilbur and Gladys Hubler Lane. After her motherâs early passing, Lois Lane became her mother. On September 13, 1944, she married James E. Ayres; he preceded her in death August 24, 2003. Together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Doris graduated from Flora High School. She then attended DePauw University and Ft. Wayne Business College. She worked from 1963 to 1978 at the Frankfort Public Library. Doris was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church and Friends of the Manor. Doris and Jim spent many wonderful winters near family in Florida. After his passing, she enjoyed many happy years at Wesley Manor. Throughout her life, Doris was busy creating beautiful handmade arts and crafts.
Surviving Doris are her daughter, Jane (Chris) Carter, of Frankfort; son, Lane (Marion) Ayres, of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Andy & Matthew (Julia) Ayres, Joe (Shelley) & Craig (Beth) Carter, and Carly (Nathan) Crabtree; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Doris is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Jo Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel at Wesley Manor from 4:00 â 6:00 p.m. also one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral service for Doris will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, in the Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel with Chaplains Barbara Kinsler and Deborah Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorisâ name may be made to St. Matthew Church Youth Scholarship Fund.
