Doris Katherine Pirtle, 73, of Flora, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
She was born May 9, 1940, in Vigo County, Indiana, the daughter of Golden T. and Lois M. Kunz Burson.
On March 10, 1962, she married Charles Willis Pirtle in El Monte, California; he preceded her in death.
Doris graduated from Prairie Creek High School in 1958. In 1961, she graduated from Indiana State University, School of Nursing. Doris worked as a registered nurse at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, was an Avon representative in Flora and the surrounding territory for over 40 years, and also worked at Bright National Bank, Sand Ridge Bank and First Financial Bank for 22 years, retiring in May of 2012. As an Avon representative, she was a member of Avon Presidentâs Club for many years and garnered numerous awards for sales and representative sponsorships. She attended Flora First Christian Church and was a member of the Delphi Bowling League for ten years. Doris enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, mushroom hunting, bowling, and playing cards especially euchre.
Surviving Doris are her children, Dee (Jim) Schlatter of Rossville, Michele (Doug) Woodward of Pyrmont, and Dewayne Pirtle of Flora; two grandchildren, Robin Hobson of Lafayette and Amanda Schlatter of Nashville, Tennessee; and three siblings, Victor Burson of Prairie Creek, Iris Burch of Terre Haute, and Trois Hodges of Farmersburg.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Woody Slade officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. Memorials in Dorisâ name may be made to Psi Iota Xi for hospital equipment.
