Doris LaVon Pflugh, 92, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort.
She was born August 15, 1920, in Lake City, Florida, the daughter of Amza and Elizabeth (Cripe) Price.
On February 2, 1943, Doris married Virgle Ray Abbett; he preceded her in death March 27, 1966. Doris married Rev. Frederick H. Pflugh on December 25, 1971; he preceded her in death April 28, 2000.
Doris achieved her bachelorâs in education in 1942 from Manchester College. She taught home economics, physical education, chemistry, biology and driverâs education at several high schools over her 32 year career before retiring in 1978. Doris taught at Stillwell, Union Township, Kingsbury, Clinton in LaPorte County, and Kreuger Middle School with Michigan City Area Schools. Dorisâ home church was Tracy United Methodist Church in Hamlet; she more recently attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort and services at Wesley Manor. Doris enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling, and playing the organ and piano. She was a youth counselor for MYF, Methodist Youth Fellowship, at Tracy and a camp counselor at Battleground, IN.
Surviving Doris are one daughter, Yvonne Dorsett of Spotsylvania, Virginia; one son, Louis Abbett of Valparaiso; one sister, Marjorie L. Hawes; six grandchildren, Glenn Abbett, Mark Abbett, Susan Abbett Chance, Gerry Abbett, Kathy Dorsett Bennett, and Karen Dorsett Murphy; 13 great grandchildren, Tyler Abbett, Austin Abbett, Gracie Mae Abbett, Casey Abbett, Connor Murphy, Brendan Murphy, Lilian Abbett, Amelia Abbett, Scarlet Abbett, Oliver Abbett, Jade Johnson, Vail Johnson, and Jameson Abbett.
In addition to her husbands, Doris is preceded in death by one son, Bernard L. E. Abbett in 1962; and one brother, R. Louis Price.
A memorial service in Dorisâ honor will be held at a later date at Tracy United Methodist Church in Hamlet.
