Doris Lee Walters
Doris Lee Walters, 83, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
She was born on June 12, 1932, in Miami County, to Charles and Goldie Lindesmith Eikenberry. She married K. Joe Sheridan on April 15, 1956, in Miami County, and they later divorced. On November 29, 1968, she married Larry Walters in Windsor, CT; he passed away on November 19, 2009.
Doris grew up in Miami County and graduated from Chili High School in 1950. She loved working with farm animals and gave many of them personal names. While married to Joe, she spent eight years as an Air Force wife at Lackland AFB and Bunker Hill (Grissom) AFB. They also had assignment at off-base locations in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Middletown, PA. Doris lived in Massachusetts and Connecticut before moving back to Indiana in 1988. She owned and managed a small store, Robbieâs, in Chester, CT, for five years and was a cook and caterer at Essex Junction in Essex, CT. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, crossword puzzles, gardening, crypto, traveling, playing the clarinet in the Fun Time Band, and spending time with her friends at Manson Christian Church and Boyleston Baptist Church where she also enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
Surviving are her children, Dorinda (Howard) Burrell of Frankfort, Syd (Pam) Sheridan of Michigan, Larry Walters Jr. of California, Kevin (Diane) Sheridan of Florida, Mark (Young) Walters of California, Gary Sheridan of Hawaii, Andy Walters of Rossville, IN, and Jennifer (John) Vickary of Frankfort, IN; one brother, Dallas (Eula Jean) Eikenberry of Peru; one sister, Laurabelle (Wayne) Cole of Peru; 33 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Doris is preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Georgia Eikenberry and Frances (Dave) Williams.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at 11:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, IN, for a graveside service on Thursday, June 25, 2015, with Pastor Bruce White officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials in Dorisâ name may be made to Boyleston Baptist Church, 566 S Co Rd 500 E, Frankfort, IN, 46041.
