Dorothea âDottieâ Mae Mellinger Gilman was called home May 22, 2013 at 7:05 pm from Milner Health Care Community in Rossville, Indiana.
She was born September 22, 1918 in Colburn, to William and Bertha Snyder Mellinger. On December 28, 1935, she married William Forrest Gilman, Sr. He went to be with the Lord in June of 1975.
Dorothea worked for 11 years at Duncan Electric; later, she was an audiologist for the following 19 years at Arnett Clinic in Lafayette before retiring in 1984. She accepted the Lord into her life and was baptized at Fairview Church of the Brethren in 1931. Later after her marriage, she became a member of the Lordâs family at the Pyrmont Church of the Brethren. Her church family and love for the Lord were the center of her life â she leaves behind her example to her children and grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
Surviving are three daughters, Hope D. Reddington, Diane L. (Gale) Kinzie and Sonja K. (Joe) Buntin; 13 grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Renee, Rick, Craig, John, Jamey, DeLee, Deena, Whitley, Todd, Stacy and Travis; 36 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews all who are special to her.
In addition to her husband, Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, one son, William Forrest Gilman, Jr.; one son-in-law, Dick Reddington; one grandson, Derek Gilman; one great-granddaughter, Laci; one great-grandson Riley; five sisters Della Burt, Sarah Pearson, Leola Miller, Lucille Burns and Victoria Melllinger; and three brothers Morris Mellinger, Paul Mellinger and Ken Mellinger;
Visitation will be Saturday, May 25, 2013, from 12:00 pm at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel until the funeral service which will begin at 2:00 pm with Guy Studebaker officiating. Burial will follow at Prymont Cemetery in Prymont, Indiana.
