Douglas Earle Hammel, 54, Mulberry, died at 10:37 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, in Lafayette.
He was born Oct. 3, 1957 in Lafayette, to Raymond âSlimâ & JoAnne (Roberts) Hammel of Mulberry, who survive.
Mr. Hammel worked at Canam Steel for 20+ years and was working at Purdue University in the Grounds Department. A lifelong Clinton County resident, he graduated from Clinton Prairie High School in 1976. He enjoyed photography, hunting, buying antiques, gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and golfing, and loved his nieces and nephews: Chrystal Rogers, Rachel Hitch, Uriah and Ciera Salmons, John Allen, Thomas and Patrick Hammel, and Christopher and Jordan Hammel.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters: Deborah (Keith) Hartman of Indianapolis, Katherine (Tex) Townsley of Mulberry, and Lorraine (Gary) Salmons of Mulberry; two brothers: Steven (Janet) Hammel of Colfax J.P. (Tina) Hammel of Mulberry.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister: Sharon.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm.. Wed., Dec. 21 at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fair Haven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Preservation Society or to Clinton County Cancer.
