Edith Kathryn Hollingsworth passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 17, 2014, peacefully at home.
She was born June 2, 1918, in Marion County, Ind., to Charles Milton and Nora Elizabeth Sheets Powell. After attending school in Flora, for 11 years, she moved with her parents to Sheridan her senior year of high school where she graduated. Kathryn married Raymond E. âDutchâ Thorp on May 16, 1937; he passed on in 1966. In 1968, she married Lloyd J. Hollingsworth; he passed on in 2001.
Kathryn was a member of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church before she transferred her member ship to the Rossville Presbyterian Church where she was still an active member. She served as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher and loved to bake pies for the fellowship dinners. She had been a member of the JOY Club, Leisure Hour Book Club, Holiday Rambler Camping Club, Owen Township Home Ec Club, and served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Rossville. She was employed by Jules Simon and Mallory Controls in Frankfort. She enjoyed doing seamstress work, helping many brides with wedding attire and teens with prom dresses.
Kathryn is survived by one son, Gary P. (Norma) Thorp of Rossville; two daughters, Janell R. Bennett and Kathryn A. âKTâ (Richard) Roth, both of Rossville; step-daughter, Irma (Don) Gangwer of Cutler; ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Sandra) Powell of Nowata, OK; and many dear nieces and nephews including Amanda Steeb whom she and Lloyd babysat from infancy.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and one grandson, Rick Roth.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Rossville Presbyterian Church from 4:30 p.m. to the start of the Celebration of Life service in Kathrynâs memory at 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Rossville Presbyterian Church, 5434 W SR 26, Rossville, IN, 46065. The funds will then be forwarded to Lifeâs Heart Foundation to further mission work in Kenya, Africa. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel.
