Ellen Marie (Bokma) Welsh

Ellen Marie Welsh, 90, of Flora, passed away, Monday, August 26, 2024, At IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She was born May 8, 1934, in Rensselaer to Chester Bokma and Florence (Herath) Bokma- Jensen. She married Richard “Nub” Welsh in Goodland on June 25, 1955. He preceded her in passing on January 7, 2010.

Ellen was a graduate of Goodland High School. After marrying her husband, they lived in Goodland before moving to Flora in 1967. She loved being a wife and mother and caring for the home. Ellen was a member of the Friendly Circle Home Ec Club, and Delta Theta Chi Sorority. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. She enjoyed reading, traveling and playing the piano. But above all she loved her family and her Boston Terriers, all six named Penny. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her love for socializing with others. 

Ellen is survived by her children Karen Southerland, Sandra Welsh, and Patrick Welsh, of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Matthew Southerland and Morgan (Taylor) Welsh; three granddaughters, Paige (Cedric) Jackson, Sara (Gabriel) Inskeep and Emma Welsh; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Welsh; brothers-in-law, Tom and Mike Welsh; and sister-in-law, Mary Antcliff

 Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Charlotte Smith; and ten in-laws that she loved as her own brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 11am until the time of the funeral mass at 1pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. Father Chris Miller will officiate. Burial will take place at 3:30 EST/ 2:30 CST at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Goodland. Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Reinke Chapel is assisting with the services.
