Ernest E. Phillips, 85, a lifelong resident of Rossville, died on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Milner Community Health Care Center in Rossville.
He was born July 30, 1927, in White County, the son of Clarence E. and Anna R. (Decker) Phillips.
On July 18, 1953, he married Rita in Brown County; she passed away July 18, 1992. He later married Janet M. Smith Helm on August 6, 1994; she survives.
Ernest was a 1946 graduate of Rossville High School. He was employed by Purdue University in the physical plant before his retirement in 1989. Ernest was a member of Zion Chapel. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Ernest is survived by one daughter, Penny (Britt) Cooper of rural Rossville;; three step daughters, Kathy (Kevin) Jackson of rural Frankfort, Cindy (Brian) Beals of rural Frankfort, and Donetta (Mike) Miller of rural Rossville; three grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harold; one step son, Craig Stanley; and one sister, Beulah Resser.
Visitation for Ernest will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday March 5, 2013 at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Brookston Cemetery with military honors to be conducted at graveside.
