Eva J. Banks

May 13, 1939 — December 29, 2024

Frankfort

Eva Banks passed away on December 29 at Wesley Manor Memory Care Facility in her hometown of Frankfort Ind. She was eighty-five years old.

A lifelong reader who was devoted to her family, Eva was born Eva Jane Shideler on May 13, 1939 in Laporte Ind., to parents Arthur and Gladys (Scott) Shideler. She grew up in Knox, Ind. as a very talented clarinet player. She had two sisters.

Eva married her high school sweetheart, Harold Banks and they were married for fifty-five years. Together, they had two children, Vicki and William “Bill”. They lived most of their adult lives in Frankfort, Ind. and were very active at St. Matthew United Methodist Church. In retirement, they wintered for over 20 years in Estero, Fla. and loved riding bikes and walking in the warm weather together. They loved to travel, especially with their immediate family.

A very dedicated and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Eva also was known for her home-cooking, holiday baking, talented sewing, and intricate quilting skills. Later in life, Eva also enjoyed walking and biking several miles a day, as well as water-walking and line-dancing. She retired after 24 years as the Financial Secretary for the St. Matthew United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Frankfort Quilt Guild.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband (Harold); son (Bill); parents; sisters Janice Pflugshaupt and Joan Bachman; and numerous extended family members. She is survived by her daughter Vicki (Rick) Anderson, Granddaughter Sarah Anderson, Great-Granddaughter Sophia Lacay and favorite Grand-Cat (Felicity) all of West Lafayette. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, close family friend Brenda Spangler Smith and other extended family.

A short graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, Jan. 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bunnell Cemetery. (1175 N. County Road 200 W, Frankfort, Ind) It was Eva’s wish to be surrounded by her quilts in lieu of flowers at her funeral. The family has requested that memorials be made in the form of contributions to St. Matthew United Methodist Church.

On behalf of the Eva Banks Family, a special thank you to all of the caregivers and support staff at the Wesley Manor Memory Care Unit for the loving care, support and comfort so freely given during her time there.
