Fay E. Gilbert

Fay Ellen Gilbert, 86, of Rossville, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Mulberry Health.  She was born February 25, 1932, in Culver, to C.O. Theodore and Elsie Louellen (Kendall) Weiger.  On February 1, 1953, she married Donald E. Gilbert; together they shared 47 years of marriage before Don’s passing on May 20, 2000.

In 1950, Fay graduated from Culver High School.  She worked for several years at Overmyer Plumbing and Heating of Culver before she joined the nursing staff of Parkview Hospital in Plymouth. Because of Don’s transfer to the Frankfort Armory, Fay accepted the position as Director of Operations for the newly opened Humane Society of Clinton County and later became a case facilitator for Tecumseh Area Partnership of Lafayette and Career Development of Frankfort working with Employment Securities and Youth in Clinton County.

Fay was den mother with Pack 290 in Culver, past board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clinton County, past president and chairwoman of the board of the Board of Indiana Federation of Humane Societies, member Clinton County Historical Society, and named Clinton County Gem in 2009, among many other community involvements.  Fay and Don were very active in genealogy given Don’s Native American heritage, telling stories and performing chants around the area schools.

Surviving Fay are her children, Michael T. Gilbert, of Frankfort, Donelle M. (James) Miller, of Rossville, and Kathy L. (Losey) Hackerd, of West Lafayette; four grandchildren, Constance (Vidal) Castroluna, Michael J. (Nikki) Gilbert, Joshua (Shelly) Hackerd, and Sabrina (Daniel) La Fleur; step-grandson, Jeremy (Christy) Hackerd; five great-grandchildren, Colton Matysuk, Evlyn Castroluna, Rayne Gilbert, Jaxon Gilbert, and Elyse La Fleur; step-great-grandson, Theodore Hackerd; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Fay is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Helen Marie Weiger and June Eva (Kenneth) Dunnick; brothers, Robert, Raymond, Vern, and Charles; and great-granddaughter, Isabelle La Fleur.

Fay’s life was complete with Don and their children; there was so much laughter, love, tears, and memories to fulfill her lifetime.  Per her wishes, a graveside service to honor both Fay and Don’s lives will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Pyrmont Cemetery with Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating.  Military honors presented by the Carroll County Honor Guard will be performed to remember Don’s military service during the Korean War.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in their names may be made to the Humane Society of Clinton County.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel with online condolences directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
