Fern M. Ferrel, 80, of Frankfort, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community surrounded by her family.
She was born June 9, 1934, in Frankfort, to LaDoska and Mary Brant Shearer. On October 3, 1954, she married William P. Ferrel; he survives.
Fern graduated from Michigantown High School and later received her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Throughout her career, Fern worked as a Registered Nurse briefly at Frankfort Hospital and for many years for the physicians at Frankfort Medical Clinic. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, D.A.R., and Psi Iota Xi. Fern enjoyed spending time with her family, ceramics, sports, NASCAR, gardening, baking, camping, and being able to help others. For those who knew Fern, she will always be most known for putting the needs of others before herself.
In addition to her husband, Fern is survived by five children, William S. (Bonnie) Ferrel, Steven D. (Wendie) Ferrel, Phillip L. (Kim) Ferrel, Jon E. (Naomi) Ferrel, and Mary Kay Ferrel (John) Baker; ten grandchildren, Kristen (Ryan) Scott, David Ferrel, Andrew (Kelsey) Ferrel, Bradley (Heavenli) Baker, Garrett Ferrel, Matthew (Aleesa) Ferrel, Taylor Ferrel, Mitchell Ferrel, Ashley Ferrel, and Megan Ferrel; one great grandson, Cayden; and one great granddaughter, Reese.
Fern is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Shearer and Lee Shearer.
Visitation for Fern will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort, from 2:00 â 5:00 p.m., and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Sunday. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the church with Rev. Justin Fisher and Director of Youth Ministries, Grant Merrell, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort. Memorials in Fernâs name may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church or St. Matthew Community Preschool.
