Florence V. (Frazier) Spurgeon

Florence V. Spurgeon, 87, Flora, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, April 22, 2022.  She was born in Fulton County, on July 19, 1934, to Christopher and Marie (Strong) Frazier.  She married Lawrence J. Spurgeon on, October 17, 1954.  He preceded her in death August 22, 1995.

Florence was a 1952 graduate of Star City High School.  Throughout her working career, she worked as a nurse aide at Long Cliff Hospital in Logansport and Home Hospital in Lafayette, at Essex Wire in Flora, and was a volunteer secretary at Murdoch Elementary School. She enjoyed playing solitaire, listening to her big band music, gardening, going to yard sales, antiquing, and was an avid reader.

Florence is survived by her children; Rachael (Bob) Yates, Mark Spurgeon, Angela (Tom) Hayes, and Rona (Dan) Sedberry; grandchildren, Emily (Jason) Miller, Michael Yates, Todd (Chrissa) Yates, Danielle Marie Williams, and Thomas Devin Hopwood; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rebecca Spurgeon; siblings, Mary Girton, William Frazier, Margie Smith, Betty Reynolds, Hazel Cushing, and Pauline Starr; and Mark’s late life partner, Merry Sindlinger-Stoner.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, 2022, from 3pm until the time of the service at 5pm, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel.  Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association or the American Cancer Society.
