Fred M. Laprad, 101, a life-long resident of Rossville, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Milner Community Health.
He was born February 1, 1916, in Camden, to John Thomas âTomâ and Nancy Barnhart Laprad. On February 27, 1939, he married Wilma Smeltzer; she passed away on August 18, 1968. On March 24, 1974, he married Edna Amstutz; she preceded him in death on June 25, 2004.
Fred graduated from Rossville High School in 1934. In 1980, he retired from the Fred Laprad Insurance Agency. Throughout his life, Fred also worked as a farmer, real estate agent, and a professional fundraiser. He was a member of Rossville Church of the Brethren. Fred was a member of Gideonâs International for over 50 years. He was an original board member of Milner Community Healthcare and a founding member of the Sunset Meadows Housing Development. Fred was also an avid fisherman and golfer and loved to travel.
Surviving Fred are his children, Stephen (Sally) LaPrad, of Pratt, KS, and Freida (Harry) Latshaw, of Rossville; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wives, Fred is preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Wade, Esther Neff, and Elsie Troxell; brother, John Laprad; and one nephew.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 4:00 â 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Rossville Church of the Brethren with Pastors Allen Weldy and Eric Alwine officiating.
