Fred Raymond Rodkey, 79, of Rossvile, died at 1:02 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at his residence.
He was born May 13, 1932, in Clinton County, and was the son of the late Ralph and Helen Davis Rodkey. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1950 and attended Indiana University. Mr. Rodkey was a Navy veteran, serving from February 1952 to February 1960 as a naval aviator crew chief.
On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Winifred âWinnieâ Purcell, and she survives.
Mr. Rodkey owned and operated Ralph Rodkey Implement for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school superintendent, deacon and elder. He was also a member of Rossville Masonic Lodge 618, Helen Bonebrake chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Lafayette 40 & 8, Frankfort Elks and Frankfort Moose Lodge, Rossville American Legion, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. He served as a Rossville volunteer fireman for 25 years, was past president of the Indiana Implement Dealers Association and Milner Healthcare Board and was one of the founding board members of Hometown Federal Savings and Loan. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Freeman.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Fred R. Rodkey II (wife: Kayrn) and Larry D. Rodkey (wife: Stephanie), both of Frankfort; two daughters, Mary Kathleen Rodkey (life partner: Jennifer Crieg) of Monticello and Virginia A. âGinnyâ Murphy (husband: David) of Rossville; and two brothers, Max Rodkey (wife: Nancy) of Rossville and Larry Rodkey of Sacramento, Calif. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren. Preceded in death by 1 sister, Phyllis Ketcham and 1 brother, John Rodkey. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and absolutely loved to brag about all of them to everyone he came in contact with.
The family will recieve friends from 3:00PM - 5:00PM Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the Rossville Presbyterian Church with a Celebration of Life service at 7:00PM at the church with Pastor John Everett officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at the Rossville Cemetery with Military Burial Rites. Memorials may be made to the Rossville School Foundation or the Rossville Presbyterian Church.
