Freida Pettiner Bell, 98, passed away on December 31, 2014, in Sun City Center, Florida.
She was born February 13, 1916, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Lile R. and Berniece (Peters) Pettiner. On February 22, 1936, she married Robert M. Bell; he preceded her in death on October 27, 1994.
Freida grew up on a farm near Sedalia, where she still maintained a home. She attended Sedalia Grade School and Owen Township Grade School and then graduated from Rossville High School in 1935. Freida wintered in the Valley in southern Texas for many years; for the last six years, she wintered in Florida to be near her daughter.
She was baptized in the Sedalia Methodist Church and when it merged with the Rossville Methodist Church, she became a member for the balance of her life. She had worked at Capehart Corp. and Mallory Corp. in Frankfort, in addition to assisting her husband on the farm. She enjoyed her family, reading, gardening, sewing, playing cards, and anything pertaining to farm life.
Surviving are her two children, Robert (Phyllis) Bell of Lafayette, and Carolyn (Wayne) Flora of Sun City Center; four grandchildren, Scott (Dianne) Bell of Lafayette, Jack (Mina) Bell of Belgrade, Serbia, Roger (Leesa) Flora of Atlanta, GA, and Phillip (Kim) Flora of Charlestown; two step grandchildren, Kevin (Nancy) Lachmund of Brookston, and David (Teresa) Lachmund of Reynolds; seven great grandchildren, Crystal, Tara, Teo, Sara, Jordan, Kyle, and Kaitlin; six step great grandchildren, Lisa, Laura, Kendra, Kyle, Nickki, and Angie; ten step great great grandchildren, Ethan, Nolan, Kara, Parker, Luke, Annabelle, Weston, Arden, Mayce, and Dawson.
In addition to her husband, Freida is preceded in death by her parents and one younger sister, Peggy Pettiner.
Visitation for Freida will be held from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel to the start of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian White officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Freidaâs name may be made to Rossville United Methodist Church.
