Garland Dillon âMouseyâ Metzger, 93, of Rossville, left to go fishing with the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Carroll Manor in Delphi.
He was born October 30, 1923, in Clinton County, to Charles Lloyd and Agnes Elizabeth Watson Metzger. On June 29, 1944, he married Fern R. Pearson; she survives.
Garland graduated from Rossville High School in 1941 and later attended Indianapolis Barber College. During both World War II and the Korean War, Garland served in the United States Army Air Corp. Most of his life, he worked as a brick mason with Kemmer Construction. He was a member of Pyrmont Church of the Brethren, member of Brick Layers & Allied Craft Workers Local 4, and lifetime member of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing cards, and loved animals. In his early years, he enjoyed crow shoots.
In addition to his wife, Garland is survived by his daughters, Jane (Bill) Knapp, of West Lafayette; and Velvet (David) Kidd and Mellisa (David) Knop, both of Rossville; brother, Gene Metzger, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Shali (Eric) Peterson, Aaron (Melissa) Knapp, Heidi Cameron, Heath Cameron, Dr. Dak (Tara) Knop, Derek (Erika) Knop, and Demetrius (Jace) Knop; great-grandchildren, Aleyna, Annabelle, and Trey Knop, Dane, Dylan, and Davis Knop, Park Peterson, and Shaela Knapp; and fishing buddy, Tom Skiles.
Garland is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Emma Wettsechurack and Phyllis Nazar; and brothers, Beecher Metzger and Gilbert Metzger.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Guy Studebaker officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery with military graveside honors. Memorials in Garlandâs name may be made to Carroll Manor or Pyrmont Church of the Brethren.
