George F. Culbertson Jr., 88, of Lafayette, died on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Haines City Health Care Center in Florida.
He was born September 4, 1924, in Springfield, Ill., the son of George F., Sr. and Mary Eva (Schultz) Culbertson. George married the former Patricia Joan Goode Biesecker on February 17, 1985; she survives.
George attended Springfield High School and Aviation School. He served in the United States Navy. Before moving to Lafayette in 1950, he lived in California for 11 years. George worked as a finish carpenter at the Purdue University Physical Plant for 13 ½ years and as a firefighter for the Lafayette Fire Department for 20 years. He attended Mulberry United Methodist Church and was an over 50 year member of the American Legion Post 11. George enjoyed camping and woodworking and loved his children.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by; one son, Michael (Pamela) Biesecker; three daughters, Joni Biesecker, Jana (David) Virgin, and Kathleen Vigil of California; one brother, Robert D. (Helen) Culbertson; six grandchildren, Crystal (Jason) Fisher, Heather (Joshua) Levchak, Amber Virgin, Jennifer Biesecker, Eric Biesecker, and Clay Biesecker; four great grandchildren, Noah, Madison, Matthew, and Megan; and several nieces and nephews.
Per Georgeâs request, he was cremated. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry from 4:00 p.m. until the memorial service in his honor that will begin at 6:00 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry.
