Gilbert L. Wagoner, 88, of Rossville, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015, after a lengthy illness at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Gilbert was born January 27, 1927, in Mulberry, to Artus and Daisy Skiles Wagoner. He married Betty Lou Wetzel on March 25, 1948; she preceded him in death on September 25, 1971. Gilbert later married E. Leora Metzger on June 11, 1972; she survives.
In 1945, he graduated from Rossville High School. Gilbert owned and operated Wagoner Custom Cabinets for over 40 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church.
In addition to his wife, Gilbert is survived by his sons, Chris (Kathryn) Wagoner of Mulberry, and Craig (Arlene) Wagoner of Rossville; two daughters, Julia (Gene) Root of Rossville, and Kim (Larry) Meador of Cutler; one sister, Lavon (Ezra) Wagoner of Rossville; 13 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his first wife, one son, Dennis; an infant sister, one grandchild, Lance Meador; one great grandchild, Thomas Root; and one brother-in-law, Max Chittick.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2015, at North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church with the Home Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Cemetery.
