Glen Jacob Shively, 90, of Rossville, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Milner Community Health-Care following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1927 in Rossville to Elmer and Mary (Yoder) Shively.
Glen was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and a lifelong area resident. He enjoyed working security for ADM in Frankfort following his retirement from the USPS. Glen was a 50 year member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church and held many positions including elder, deacon, trustee and Sunday School supervisor. He was formerly a member of the American Legion, Masons and Eastern Star.
On July 18, 1948, Glen married Virginia Roberta Slaughter and together celebrated over 65 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on September 30, 2013. He was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis Shively and two brothers, Clarence Shively and Alvin Shively.
Surviving family includes three children, Michael L. (Gail) Shively of Rossville, Michele Payne of Lafayette, and Mitchell (Annette) Shively of Delaware, OH; four grandchildren, Brian Shively, Heath Shively, Shanda Lee, and Clarke Burton Payne III; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons and siblings, Marie Baker of Rossville, Elsie (Warren) Shuck of Baldwin City, KS, Dorothy Metzger of Rossville, Doris (Glen) Callaway of Laketon, Jesse (Shirley) Shively of Franklin, Leona Skiles of Rossville and Kenneth (Patty) Shively of LaPorte.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Genda Funeral Home â Rossville Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Lyle officiating. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery.
