Hazel E. Burnette, 81, formerly of Michigantown, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at her sonâs home in Burnettsville.
She was born December 14, 1934, in Indiana, to Oliver James and Ada Brinson Sterling. On November 28, 1955, she married Wesley W. Burnette; he passed away on May 18, 2002.
Hazel graduated from Johnson Bible College with her bachelorâs degree. She was a long standing member of Woodside Christian Church where she served as a church pianist and song leader before recently transferring her membership to Burnettsville Christian Church. Hazel led Bible Study Groups at both Woodside Christian Church and Eastside Christian Church; she also taught Sunday school and Junior Church for all ages. Hazel served in the Prayer Partner Ministry through Johnson Bible College also. Hazel was a homemaker but had worked at Peter Paul, Federal Mogul, and church secretarial jobs.
Surviving are her children, Phil Burnette of Michigantown, Michael âDeanâ Burnette of Burnettsville, Pam (Rick) Mithun of Westfield, Vicki (Ira) Greeno of Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Terry Burnette of Frankfort; two grandchildren, Krista (Matt) Jemison and Karis (Mitch) Beaver; and two brothers, Jim (Norma) Sterling of Indianapolis, and Norman (Alice) Sterling of Sauk Centre, MN.
In addition to her husband, Hazel is preceded in death by two sons, Geoff and Steven; and two brothers, Lester and Ramon.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Her son, Pastor Dean Burnette, will officiate. Burial will follow in Whiteman Cemetery in Michigantown. Memorials in Hazelâs name may be made to Burnettsville Christian Church or Woodside Christian Church.
