Hellen Irene Simmons, 85, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care in Rutledge, Tenn.
She was born May 22, 1927, in Pence, Ind., the daughter of James O. and Mamie Downey.
On July 18, 1948, she married Ronald M. Simmons; he preceded her in death.
Hellen was a long time resident of Mulberry, Ind. She was a class of 1945 graduate of Pence High School. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary for a professor at Purdue University, was employed in the office of the Clinton County Circuit Court Clerk, and later worked as an activities director at Mulberry Lutheran Home. Hellen was also a Cub Scout den mother. Hellen was a former member of Mulberry United Methodist Church and First Christ Church in Frankfort. She was a homemaker and active in her community and her church where she taught Sunday school.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Charles) Robinson of Mooresburg, Tenn.; two sons, Mark (Deborah) Simmons of Carmel, and Dale (Margo) Simmons of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Hellen is preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother, and one son, Ray Simmons.
Visitation for Hellen will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Genda Funeral Home-Mulberry Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Saint Samuel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Haven Cemetery in rural Mulberry.
