Herbie Lee Coomer, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1950, in Burkesville, KY, to Herbert Russell and Thelma Lucille Hurt Coomer.

Herbie graduated Carroll High School in 1969, then attended Purdue University, and later graduated from IU with a degree in criminal justice.  He was a security patrolman First Class from 1981 until his retirement in 2011 from IUPUI.  Herbie loved protecting the students at IUPUI.  He was an avid gun, sword, and knife collector and life member of the N.R.A.  Herbie also loved to fix bicycles to give to kids.

Surviving are his sisters, Brenda (John) Fultz of Mulberry, and Bonnie Ohman of Lafayette; brother, Ken Coomer of Kokomo; special friend, Diane Coomer; three nieces, and three nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel from 12:30 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m.  Pastor Andria Helm will officiate.  Burial will be in Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Herbie’s name may be made to IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
