J. Harold Summe

J. Harold Summe, age 93, of Flora, passed away peacefully at his home early Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016.

Harold was born in Flora on January 21, 1923 to Calvin J. Summe and Bessie L. (Frank) Summe. He was a 1941 graduate of Flora High School. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army and was a proud World War II Veteran. He was involved in the Invasion of Normandy and Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. He received many honors including four Bronze Stars. He went on to work for General Tire in Logansport and later retired after 31 years of service. Harold was a Life Member of the VFW Post 3790 in Logansport and a member of the American Legion in Wolton.

Harold is survived by his loving companion, Marion Woodke of Flora, and her family, Sheryl Layer (Steven) of Logansport; Jacob Layer of Boston, MA; Joshua and Micaela Layer of Logansport; Daniel Woodke (Suzan) of Logansport; Kenny Knickrehm of Logansport; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Genda Funeral Home-Reinke Chapel in Flora on Friday, July 1 at 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jeff Landon of Flora United Methodist Church will officiate.
