Jack Dean Douglass, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 3:29 a.m. at Milnerâs Community Health Care in Rossville where he was a patient for several years with Alzheimer disease.
Jack was born October 17, 1926, in Carroll County, the oldest son of Raymond and Thelma Apt Douglass. Jack married the former Barbara Frey who passed away in 2010.
Jack graduated from Rossville High School in 1944. In 1945, he became one of the partners in Douglass and Sons, a meat market and grocery store, when he bought Wagner and Sonâs store in Flora. Jack worked at the store until it was sold in 1969. He also had a photography studio in Flora for a number of years. He then enrolled in Ivy Tech College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology. After receiving his degree, he worked at CTI, a computer chip manufacturer of pacemaker chips until his retirement in 1991.
Jack was a member of Flora Masonic Lodge 605 where he was a past Master and member of the Indiana Scottish Rite as a 32nd degree mason. He was also a board member of the Flora Community Club and was a past member of the Lionâs Club. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, building stock cars and photography.
Jack is survived by a brother, Robert (EvaRose) Douglass of Sun City West, AZ; sister, Anita (David) Clegg of Williamsburg, VA; three nieces, two nephews, two great nieces, four great nephews, and two great, great nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora from 5:00 â 7:00 p.m. followed by Masonic funeral service. Funeral service for Jack will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora; his wifeâs cremains will be buried with Jack.
