Jack Richard Smith, 90, of Flora, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville surrounded by his family.
He was born June 21, 1924, in Flora, to Laurel and Lucille Kennedy Smith. On November 22, 1941, he married JoAnn Griffith.
Jack was a 1942 graduate of Flora High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II. After his naval service, he became a partner with Smith Construction Company, builders of bituminous highways and roads, until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 222, Flora Masonic Lodge 605, and the Maple Lawn Cemetery Board. He was a lifetime active member of the Flora First Christian Church and was also active in the Flora Community Club. Jack enjoyed travel, collecting antiques, and spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, a sister, Rebecca Smith (Cullen) Eikenberry, a son Anthony Griffith (Sue) Smith, a daughter Sherry Smith (Dale) Myer, a granddaughter Adrienne Myer (Patrick) Bohannon, a great-granddaughter Lucy Bohannon, a great-grandson Andrew Bohannon, two step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
Jack is preceded in death by a brother, Jon Kennedy Smith and a sister, JoAnn Smith Miller.
Visitation will be held on Monday April 13, 2015, at Flora First Christian Church, from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Woody Slade will officiate. The graveside service with military rites will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Flora First Christian Church or Camp Tecumseh YMCA.
