Janice A. Shewmaker, 79, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
She was born January 31, 1937, in East Chicago, IN, to Emil Vernon and Clara Armstrong Aldrin. On September 7, 1958, she married Harry Shewmaker in East Chicago; he survives.
Jann graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1955, received her bachelor degree from IUK, and achieved her masterâs degree from Purdue University. She taught from 1975 to her retirement in 1998 at North White School System and later served as a substitute teacher. Jann was a member, past vice president, and Chief Negotiator of the North White Classroom Teachers Association. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, NWTCA, Phi Lambda C, Star Choir, Sweet Sue in Florida, and Tropicana Park Council in Florida. Jann also enjoyed water aerobics while in Florida.
In addition to her husband, Jann is survived by her children, Marc Aldrin Shewmaker (Colette Weitknecht) of Hobart, Kathleen Jann Shewmaker (Sue Long) of Lafayette, and Kristin Linnea (Fred) Schmidt of Gilbertsville, PA; three grandchildren, Alexander Shewmaker, Brynn Schmidt, and Mallory Schmidt; and one great granddaughter, Alaina Shewmaker.
Jann is preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Kelsey Shewmaker.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel at Wesley Manor on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Chaplain Barbara Kinsler will officiate. Memorials in Jannâs name may be made to Indiana United Methodist Childrenâs Home, Wesley Manor Good Samaritan Fund, or Wesley Manor Employee Appreciation Fund.
